First Day Shelter - “Recovering from Homelessness” The RFH program provides a short-term emergency transitional housing with on site supportive services to 45 individuals in the City of Whittier. Services include: on-site health clinic, health screenings, mental health services, on-site meals, case management, clothing, transportation, 12 step meetings, education, training and employment assistance. www.whittierfirstday.org

Whittier Rio Hondo Aids Project - WRHAP’s Case Managers provide ongoing support and assure the best quality of life for persons with HIV/AIDS related illnesses and their loved ones. Case Managers work with clients to ensure that basic needs are met through counseling, referrals and follow-ups. WRHAP’s mission is to reduce the number of new infections from HIV/AIDS through testing and education targeted toward prevention and keeping our community healthy. www.wrhap.org

Come to Him Ministries Transitional Living - Come to Him Ministries partners with local churches to assist in setting free those held captive by abuse or addiction through teaching, mentoring, and accountability. CTM provides a clean, safe living environment where people can feel welcomed and supported in their transition to mainstream society. www.cometohim.com

Interfaith Food Center - Interfaith Food Center provides supplementary food assistance to low income residents of Whittier & La Mirada. Currently IFC helps 700+ families on a weekly basis and 40- 45 homeless individuals on a daily basis. IFC is committed to serving the food needs of the hungry, disadvantaged and homeless population in our community. L. A. Mission - The Los Angeles Mission is a nonprofit organization serving the homeless living on the streets of downtown’s Skid Row. L. A. Mission provides hot meals, served three times a day, overnight shelter, clean clothing, showers, shaves and temporary baggage storage. Through the Los Angeles Mission Community Clinic, guests receive primary healthcare, TB screening and follow-up therapy, HIV education, counseling, testing and follow-up, dental care, chiropractic care and general health education. www.losangelesmission.org

Salvation Army Transitional Living Center - TLC provides comprehensive residential support services to 28 homeless women and their children, most of whom are victims of domestic violence and substance abuse. The two-year program provides families with the tools they need to recover fully and achieve self-sufficiency.

Whittier Pregnancy Care Clinic - The purpose of WPCC is to provide support to women as they make important pregnancy decisions. WPCC offers information on the emotional and physical aspects of pregnancy and information concerning all available options. WPCC offers a range of free and confidential services including pregnancy tests, ultrasound, support groups, referrals for housing, legal assistance and food. www.pregnancycareclinic.net

Description: Provides friendship ,accountability and support in a mentoring environment to young moms. Meets twice a month: every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month in the evening. Calls or meets with her mentee once a week for up to1 hour to develop a relationship. Training will be provided 4 times/year.
Skills & Attributes: Friendly and relational. Good listener. Tolerant of others. Mature Christian walk.

Foley House - Foley House is committed to providing residential alcohol and drug treatment services to the women and their children who desire to recover from substance abuse. This is accomplished by promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging relationships with AA and other self-help support groups, providing a structured environment, education and counseling. www.foleyhouse.net

Craig Ministries community calls/helps - The Craig Ministries exist to meet the needs of those in our congregation and community by assisting in minor repairs and upkeep in the home.

S.A.Y. Yes, Skid Row Ministries - S.A.Y Yes!, which stands for Saving America’s Youth, helps run an after-school program for children living in inner-city Los Angeles. Monday through Thursday children can listen to Bible stories, play sports, do arts and crafts and even receive homework help. Beyond the after-school program, S.A.Y. Yes! also hosts numerous outside events for the children.

Laurel Elementary Tutoring - Working one-on-one with a child or leading a small group, make an impact by tutoring at Laurel Elementary School. Each teacher has different needs, and subject matter will range. Laurel requests a commitment of one to one and a half hours per week.

Bridge of Faith - Bridge of Faith / H.O.M.E. (Home Opportunity Meets Emancipation) has been called a model for the nation. Our goal: To rescue, restore and assist emancipated foster girls as they develop into woman of value, importance and purpose. A leader is needed for an exciting Chinese outreach (COIN), held annually during the Chinese New Year celebration in Chinatown. Required: 10-25 hrs. of service between Nov. & Jan., and attendance at the festival.
