Mission Statement and History

Our Mission Statement: Follow God + Love People
Simple, yet deep; uncomplicated, yet profound. Follow God + Love People sums up the purpose for our fellowship together. Our vision comes from Paul's words in Ephesians 5:1-2. "Follow God's example in everything you do, because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave Himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like a sweet perfume to Him."

Our History
Whittier Area Baptist Fellowship, now Whittier Area Community Church, came into existence in August of 1971. At that time, 384 individuals met together in worship at McNally Junior High School in La Mirada. Rev. Paul Ethington and his wife, Bonnie, became the first staff members and the East Whittier United Methodist Church was rented in the fall.Dr. J. Daniel Baumann and his wife, Nancy, accepted an invitation to be WACC's first senior pastor. The church met for the first time in its new multipurpose building on the present site December 19, 1976. In 1980, the Christian Education building was completed. Dr. Baumann resigned in the spring of 1982 to move to San Diego and in January of 1983 Dr. Leland V. Eliason and his wife, Carol, began their ministry at WACC. In 1983 the Family Center was added. In July of 1994, Dr. Eliason completed eleven and one half years of ministry at WACC.Dr. William C. Ankerberg and his wife, Arlie, began their ministry coinciding with the church's 25th Anniversary. Dr. Ankerberg has been in ministry since 1972 and has been a Senior Pastor since 1976. He is a graduate of Bethel College and Bethel Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota and received his Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity in Deerfield Illinois. Dr. Ankerberg has served as our Senior Pastor since 1994.In November 1997, Whittier Area Baptist Fellowship became Whittier Area Community Church in keeping with our vision to reach our community for Christ. September 30, 2006 marked the 35th Anniversary of Whittier Area Community Church.
